Who is Don Agey?
My name is Don Agey
just say the first two letters of my last name and you have it; A G. I was born and raised in the semi-desert that is California. After my military service of four years in the Navy, I embraced the opportunity to further pursue my education, with the support of the GI Bill. My strength always lay in English…and math and history. I managed to pass the other subjects. It was during my first year that I took an unexpected elective: poetry. Though I’m still not quite sure what inspired that choice, it ignited a passion that has followed me and shaped all my writing ever since.
After the Navy and college, I had the chance to travel. I went on a Christian Leadership Study cruise to Europe and Africa, and parts of Iberia. The cruise lasted eight weeks and we visited eighteen countries. Much later I took a two-week tour of Israel. There was this memorable, very, seven-day cruise to Mexico, but that is a story best left for another time…or not.
Over the years I have explored various poetic forms, from rhymed verse to free verse, haiku, limericks, and even a solitary sonnet. Each piece is forged by just living, and the ups and downs of working through it. Love, loss, the ever-changing world. Some were forged by emotion and some by the need to learn a new piece of the puzzle that is writing. Some will take longer than others – sonnets and haiku.
As the political landscape has changed so has the tenor of some of my work. The political arena is rich in fodder for it. In 2017 I made a decision to share my work with you all. While my first attempt to publish a book was met with challenges, it became a valuable learning experience. Now, with a growing skill and a better understanding of what I’m trying to do, I’m excited to announce that my latest work will be released soon.
Join me on this journey of words, where each poem tells a story, or just gives you a reason to laugh.
